WERC Goes Day Into Night at Buttonwillow for Round Two of 2014 Season

2016-12-07T10:24:35-08:00May 1st, 2014|

Fuel stops are key to any endurance team’s race strategy. With its stable of three Mazda 6 diesels, Team Mazdaspeed kept its fuel strategy during the three-hour enduro At Buttonwillow in April simple by not stopping at all.
Driving the No. 70 car, Ken Saward did the whole stint himself and took home first place for his efforts.
“I kept thinking of the word ‘sublime’ while I was driving it, because once you get into a rhythm in the car, it feels so good,” Saward said. “It’s got a ton of torque. It’s a very comfortable car to drive.”
Teammate Jeremy Barnes took over in the No. 55 car halfway through the race, replacing co-driver Preston Lerner.

Western Endurance Series Kicks Off 2014 Season at Sonoma

2014-03-01T00:00:48-08:00March 1st, 2014|

The weekend of February 15-16, 2014, kicked off a great start to the racing season at Sonoma Raceway, where NASA NorCal hosted sprint races and round one of the 2014 Western Endurance Racing Championship. Between the sprints and enduros, HPDE groups had lots of track time to enjoy during some California winter weather — which means sunny and 70 degrees for you folks on the East Coast. The combination event was a great opportunity for teams to see how the 2014 WERC season would unfold.
The Western Endurance Racing Championship round one event kicked off late Sunday afternoon, with the usual suspects from NASA’s endurance racing ranks competing in six classes (ESR, ES, E0, E1, E2, E3). Team Davidson Racing in the beautiful, red-and-white No.

In a historical event at Sonoma Raceway, Round 4 of the 2013 Western Endurance Racing Championship (WERC) began before sunset and raged three hours into the night to be the first NASA race under the lights at the twisty course in the Sonoma hills. This was to be the last WERC race before the season finale during the 2013 25 Hours of Thunderill. The nighttime event in Sonoma gave teams a chance to test their lighting setups before the big race.
The action began at 4 p.m.

The Six Hours of Miller – It’s a race of firsts for Honda Performance Development Racing Club

2013-10-01T00:00:37-08:00October 1st, 2013|

It all started with one question: “Hey, did you guys see that Western Endurance Racing Championship is doing a six-hour Enduro at Miller?” Next thing you know, we’re loaded up in three cars with our HPD Honda Fit in tow, making the 12-hour drive out to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. By the way, do you know how Tooele is pronounced? That was one of the small debates we had during our trek, along with why hamburgers are called hamburgers when they clearly don’t have any ham in them. There is a lot of knowledge to be shared when you’re on the road with five of your buddies for such a long drive.
Sixteen cars entered in an enduro on a 3-mile-long course means lots of racing room.
