WERC Goes From Start to Finish in the Dark at Buttonwillow

Races in the Western Endurance Racing Championship series nearly always begin in the warm orange glow of a setting sun and finish in the pitch black of California’s San Joaquin Valley — but not the October event. It began in the dark at 7 o’clock and ended at 10 o’clock, when the stars shone even brighter in an indigo sky.
In ES, Team TruSpeed brought the biggest gun to the knife fight with its Porsche Cup car, but the car suffered a mechanical breakdown after just three laps, and retired. At the end of hour one, Team Prototype Development Group was leading, but before the two-mark the team suffered a crash in the Grapevine turn, and retired.

WERC Racers Battle Heat and Darkness at Buttonwillow

When 28 teams took to the grid for the 6:30 p.m. start of round two of the Western Endurance Racing Challenge series at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, temperatures still hovered in the low 100s. Racers boiled on grid as seconds ticked down to the start. When the green flag flew, the field took off at sprint-race pace for the three-hour enduro.
In ESR, Team Green Alternative Motorsports took its Honda-powered Norma chassis to a class win. Team Competitive Edge racing came in second in its rotary-engine Amac sports racer.
“The start was good,” said Competitive Edge driver John Bosso. “We had a good, solid car that was competitive. We started 13th and moved up to fourth overall, and we got a flat.

WERC Season Wraps up at Buttonwillow

When the green flag dropped on the last race of the WERC regular season, 23 cars had lined up to take a shot at glory in the ink-black darkness of a Buttonwillow night.
Team Road Shagger Racing had earned pole position in its E36 M3 over Marvista Racing, also in a BMW and Luxury: Don’t Crash Racing in its Porsche GT3 Cup car. Road Shagger used pole position to great advantage by gaining a healthy lead and keeping it, which was good enough for the win in E0 and first overall.
“Gavin started the race and built a giant lead,” said cleanup driver John Morley. “Before the first fuel stop, we already had a minute and a half lead. We tried to make no mistakes and keep it clean. We had had engine issues for two years leading up to this.

Achilles Motorsports is Aces at Buttonwillow

Twenty challengers converged on Buttonwillow Raceway Park for round three of the Western Endurance Racing Championship to battle the heat and one another in a three-hour enduro. When the race began at 5:40, the sun was blazing and temperatures were still in the high 90s.
Technic/HQ Autosport, which qualified on pole had a great start, and led E1 and overall the first half hour of the race. Teen Mazda Challenge racer Joey Jordan drove the first stint until the car began to overheat. He pulled far off track but the truck that arrived to pull him back to the pits, it got stuck in Buttonwillow’s infamous silty soil. That meant another truck had to come out and tow the tow truck.
